Privacy
What Wageningen Centraal stores about you, why, and what you can do about it. Last updated 23 October 2026.
Who runs this site
Wageningen Centraal is run by Alita Tithpith, who is responsible for your data. Questions and requests go to privacy@CHANGE-ME.invalid.
What we store
- Your account: name, email address, a scrambled (hashed) version of your password, and your profile photo if you add one.
- Google sign-in, if you use it: the name, email address and profile photo Google shares with us. We never see your Google password.
- What you publish: events, community posts, comments, likes, images and, for organisations, your organiser profile.
- Sign-in sessions: the IP address and browser you signed in from, to keep you signed in and to spot misuse.
Your name appears next to your posts and comments. Your email address is only visible to the admins who moderate the site.
Why we store it
To run your account and show what you publish (needed to provide the service), and to keep the site safe and moderated (our legitimate interest). We don't sell your data and don't use it for advertising.
Cookies
We only use cookies the site needs: one to keep you signed in, one that shows a message after you save something, and one that remembers which accounts have signed in on this browser, so someone guessing your password elsewhere can't lock you out. No analytics, advertising or tracking cookies.
Where it's kept
- Our database is hosted by Neon in Frankfurt, Germany.
- The website and uploaded images are on a Hetzner server in Germany.
- Google is involved only if you choose to sign in with Google.
- An email service delivers the sign-in links and password reset emails you ask for. It receives your email address and the message, nothing else.
- If an account is getting a suspicious number of sign-in attempts, Cloudflare Turnstile checks that you're human before you can sign in to it. Cloudflare then sees your IP address and browser details.
How long we keep it
Until you delete your account. Sign-in sessions expire after a week without use. When you delete your account, your profile, photo, posts, comments, likes and organiser profile are removed. Events you submitted stay listed, but are no longer linked to you.
Your rights
You can see and correct your details, change your password and delete your account yourself on your profile page. You can also ask us for a copy of your data, or to correct, delete or stop using it, by emailing privacy@CHANGE-ME.invalid. If you're unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
